Massachusetts Safe Driving LawIn Massachusetts, texting while driving is strictly prohibited for drivers of all ages. The Safe Driving Law became effective in Massachusetts on September 30, 2010. Drivers are now not permitted to use the internet and send, type or read any electronic messages while operating a motor vehicle in Massachusetts. Texting while driving is unlawful in Massachusetts. Hands free technology should be utilized while driving. The law is more restrictive for certain types of drivers. M.G.L. ch. 90 § 8M bans all cell phone use by junior operators under the age of 19 while driving.
