About Boston
Boston was founded on September 17, 1630 by Puritan colonists from England. Originally, Boston did not enjoy the land mass it does today and was much smaller. The city was incorporated in 1822. Boston is well known for its role in the American Revolution, including the Boston Tea Party, the Boston Massacre, and some of the earliest battles in the war, including the battle in which the first shots were fired, the Battle of Bunker Hill.

Today, a monument to those who lost their lives stands on the top of Bunker Hill in Charlestown, Massachusetts. Paul Revere’s famous midnight ride, and the subject of Henry Wadsworth Longfellow’s poem, began in Boston.

Today, tourists can see the Old North Church from which the lights were shown to indicate whether the British were arriving by land or by sea, as told by the poem. Paul Revere’s home still stands in the North End and can be toured year round. Many other historical sites can be found on Boston’s Freedom Trail, one of America’s first walking tours.

Tours of the Freedom Trail are self-guided or available with colonial-dressed guides. Interesting sites include the Boston Commons, the oldest public recreational area in the country, the Granary Burying Ground, Fanueil Hall, the site of the Boston Massacre, Copp’s Hill Burying Ground, and the USS Constiution and Charlestown Navy Yard.

In the present day, Boston enjoys a rich and diverse cultural atmosphere, in addition to a vibrant and booming economy. Immigrants from all over Europe began flocking to Boston in the 1800s, and have left their footsteps in Boston in the form of religious centers, ethnic eateries, and neighborhood festivals. Boston’s most prominent neighborhoods include the North End, Beacon Hill, the Back Bay, the South End, and South Boston. Many of these neighborhoods are featured in notable films, including Good Will Hunting, The Departed, and The Towne.

The Fenway neighborhood is home to Fenway Park, the home of the Boston Red Sox. In addition to Bostonians’ zealous enthusiam for their Sox, Boston is also home of NBA team the Boston Celtics, NHL team the Boston Bruins, and NFL team New England Patriots. A city alive with sports, culture, and history, Boston could not be a better place to visit or live. Today, Boston is home to 359,000 residents.

Criminal and civil matters are heard at Boston Municipal Court, located at 24 New Chardon Street, Boston, Massachusetts. Boston Municipal Court maintains jurisdiction over all of Suffolk County.
